Phone Home

Will your cell phone work in Britian?  The short answer is yes, if you have in UNLOCKED before you come.  Just call your provider and tell them do it.  It magically becomes so.  And while you're at it, ask them how much it will cost you to use it over here - it's probably around a buck a minute!  For cheaper rates, try a phone card.  You can get one in the states or in the UK - ask for an international phone card at any post office.  If you're using a card from the states, make sure you know the right number to call from the UK to access your card (it should start with 0-800, NOT 1-800).  Having a phone card is handy for calling your hotels as well as calling home, plus you get to do it from those famous red phone booths!
