Welcome to Marc and Katie's guide to Britain!

We traveled practically every inch of Britain over the course of three years.  Since we have so many people asking us for travel advice (and we're glad you asked!)  we've put this blog together to keep all our advice in one place and make sure we don't miss anything important.  A few points before you get started:

  • Everybody's different, and likes really different stuff.  We hosted over 15 different groups of people in England and were always surprised to see just how different everybody was.  From that experience we can safely say, you are unique.   Embrace it.  Do yourself a favor and do the research, so that your trip can be tailored to your interests.
  • Having said that, you don't know what you don't know, which is probably why you're here.  For that, we've listed all our most favorite places, with really brief descriptions.  Browse by geographic location, or interest category on the right.  If we know of really cool hotels or other places to stay, we've included that, too (but most of the time we camped or slept in our car so...).  We've also suggested a few itineraries as starting points (over on the right), but of course, make your trip your own!
  • Get yourself a tourist map, a nice big one with all the relevant stuff on it.  DO IT.  Visualizing everything is the key to planning a trip well.  If we could put an interactive map here we would, but we can't.  But seriously, everything you read on this website is pretty pointless if you can't put it into a geographical context.   There's also a lot of practical travel advice here
  • Thank you notes may be mailed to our street address on the back of twenty dollar bills.  Enjoy your trip to the Motherland!

Also check out VisitBritain for lots of great general information including the Great British Heritage Card, which rocks.
